NLP Techniques for Anxiety Before Job Interviews
If anxiety feels overwhelming or you're in crisis: in the US, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). Elsewhere, find a free local helpline at findahelpline.com. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
The inner sentence: "If I mess this up, I'll never get a good job". A kinder reframe: this is one conversation, a two-way test of fit, and every interview is practice for the one that works.
- Anchoring
Anchoring pairs a resourceful emotional state with a simple cue (such as pressing thumb and finger together) so you can recall that state on demand. - Future Pacing
Future pacing means mentally rehearsing a future situation with your new response in place, so the change is ready when the moment comes. - Perceptual Positions
Perceptual positions has you look at a situation from three viewpoints: your own (first), another person's (second), and a neutral observer's (third). - Circle of Excellence
The circle of excellence is a spatial anchor: you imagine a circle on the floor, fill it with a resourceful state, and step into it whenever you need that state. - Reframing
Reframing changes the meaning or context you give an experience, so the same situation produces a different emotional response.
